Yael was born in Santiago de Chile…in one of the southernmost southern countries of the world where deserts, waterfalls, glaciers and mountains coexist in a 4000 km coastline. Always singing made up tunes, she began playing piano at age 5, songwriting at 8 and playing guitar at 13.
At 19, after receiving a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music, she left Chile and settled in Boston where she wrote, produced and recorded her debut album ”Common Ground”, a blend of indie folk and lounge electronica hailed as “one of the top 50 albums of the year” by Rolling Stone Chile.
Yael currently resides in Los Angeles, where she continues to perform, write, produce and record. Her most recent collaborations include a series of webisodes (under development) starring Galooney the Clown, as well as co-writes with Cathy Heller and Lindsey Ray, amongst other artists.
Her voice and music have been featured in numerous recordings and films including Chilean-Mexican production El Brindis for which she was commissioned to write and produce the song Aqui, the opening track to the film. Her music can also be heard on the documentaries: Al Final del Tunel, Holocaust: 3rd Generation and Ondinas.
Yael plays various instruments both live and on her recordings including guitar, bass guitar, percussion, accordeon, glockenspiel, keyboards, piano, melodica, ukulele and ocarina.
Her most recent work “Heartbeat EP” has been described by as “a female version of Death Cab for Cutie meets Jack Johnson” (Loud Dreams) and “a balanced new age of folk, independent pop and electronic” (My Crazy Music Blog). The title track “Heartbeat” was included amongst the top 50 songs of 2009 by Rawk Blog and reached the #1 spot in the singer-songwriter charts on the indie music site www.uvumi.com
The 5 song EP, was recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Bill Lefler (Ingrid Michaelson, Tim Myers, Fall Out Boy, Gym Class Heroes). It includes guest appearances by Danny Levin on trumpet (Lenka), Fil Krohnengold on acoustic guitar and accordion (Meiko) and Joseph Karnes on bass (Jesca Hoop).
The album which features all new material written by Yael, was released worldwide on November 10th 2009 and is available on iTunes, Amazon mp3 and through her own websitewww.yaelmeyermusic.com/music.
